Course Summary

This course prepares students for a career in the photographic industry. Apart from studying traditional black and white film development and processing in a darkroom, students also learn about digital photography and image manipulation using sophisticated computer software. The first year of study concentrates on the development of photographic techniques and studio practice. Subjects covered include studio lighting, photographic techniques and studio practice. In the second year, students learn about visual language and how to interpret photographic images. There are practitioner visits, live projects and exhibition set-ups, and students can display their work in a final exhibition staged in Swindon.

Course Details – Assessment Method

Assessment methods involve formative and summative strategies leading to a positive learning methodology with written feedback on all assessed work. Students are continuously assessed and there is regular feedback on the development of photographic style and production techniques. Structured tutorial sessions are also timetabled.
