The Public Relations and Media Foundation Year will offer an exciting introduction to higher education and is part of a 4-year undergraduate integrated degree. This foundation year will ideally suit those that need a little more support after further education before undertaking an undergraduate degree, or those returning to education after a gap. The inclusive learning environment, delivered by an expert programme team, will meet your needs to feel comfortable at Swansea University. The foundation programme offers exciting and innovative content in the modules that deal with the notion and understanding of what it is to be human. You will explore what it is to be human using the humanities and social sciences, including a great variety of theory and literature delivered by academics within your full degree subject area. A final year project supervised from a subject expert in the Public Relation and Media degree teaching team will allow you to explore an area of interest to you within your chosen discipline. After progression from the foundation year, you will cover topics including public relations and marketing, creative media practice, radio and video production, journalism, digital and social media. You will have access to our Media Creativity Suite, which has a video studio and a computer lab kitted out with iMacs installed with industry standard software, including Final Cut Pro X and Adobe Creative Cloud. Our teaching staff comprises specialist international researchers and also ex-professionals lecturing on video production, web and creative design, PR and journalism, giving you an unrivalled mix of academic and industry experience, further supported by lectures and seminars by guest speakers. As a student on our BA Public Relations and Media programme accredited by the Chartered Institute of Public Relations, you will be joining a department that is ranked in the 11th in the UK for overall student satisfaction. (NSS 2017). Some 91% of graduates are employed or in further study within six months of graduating (Destination of Leavers from HE survey 2015), and 75% of our students achieved a 1st class or 2.1 honours degree in 2016/17. Our Public Relations and Media graduates are truly international and are employed not just in the UK but all around the world. They have careers in journalism, media, business, public relations and marketing, digital marketing, broadcasting, TV and radio, and publishing. Swansea University is awarded Gold by the Teaching Excellence Framework (TEF Gold). Based on our stunning Singleton Park campus, in parkland overlooking Swansea Bay on the edge of the Gower Peninsula, the course will give you a thorough understanding of the Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences.
