The degree will look at ways of analysing language knowledge and language use across a wide variety of contexts, and will necessarily make connections with other disciplinary areas of study in the social sciences. Topics covered will typically include: Language sounds and structure Language in the mind: processing and production Myths and truths about language(s) Child language and literacy Sociolinguistics (language, identities and communities) Discourse analysis (language and context) Software tools for applied linguistics Working with practitioners (health, law, education, technology) Psycholinguistics of language acquisition and attrition Atypical speech and language (communication disorders) Forensic linguistics (language and law) Language policy and planning Language in media A research project (dissertation)
