Our brand-new BA (Hons) Product, Furniture, Ceramics brings the processes of creation and innovation products to life, from design through to manufacture. With Staffordshire University, we have developed the perfect course to launch you into industry straight from graduation, with guaranteed work experience available through your own negotiations or with the help of our established connections within various industries. On our unique Product, Furniture, Ceramics course you’ll develop a broad set of design and making skills, learning from our team of expert academics in our amazing design studio. You’ll apply your skills to collaborative industry projects with world renowned brands, building a portfolio of innovative and exciting work. You can choose to specialise in the third year, tailoring your projects to your target career, whether you want to be a designer in industry, a ceramicist, furniture maker or freelance designer maker. Our course is taught by academics with real-world experience in product design and manufacturing, who will be at your side throughout your journey to provide you with the knowledge, skills and support you need to take the first step to a successful career in product design. The first year of the course is designed to provide solid foundations for the second and third year, teaching key design skills, software tutorials and material exploration. Live projects with Industry give students the opportunity to put these skills into practice and get their first taste of working with clients. In the second year, students focus on developing an identity as a designer whilst learning more about design for manufacture and advanced digital techniques. Further collaborative projects with industry develop student independence and introduce factors like costings, branding and intellectual property. The third year allows students to specialise and tailor their Major Project to their target career or discipline, putting all the skills developed into practice. Additional projects with industry and competition briefs provide new opportunities to for showcase portfolio projects. Students consider the contextualisation of their work, refine their portfolio, and plan their career launch. The third year also provides the opportunity to show work at a national exhibition.
