Do you care about people and social injustice? Are you disheartened by the levels of poverty and inequality in society? Are you ready to take action to bring about change? Then this course is for you! At every level of this course, you will learn how you can take action to bring about real and lasting change. The course will enable you to understand the causes and drivers of poverty and hardship and seek to build sector-specific skills. The course will be action-based and at it's heart, will focus on the lived experience of those experiencing poverty and social inequalities, in recognition of the expertise they hold. Developed in consultation with both local and national voluntary and charity sector organisations, the course will offer opportunities for work-based learning, assisting in the development of the key skills necessary to create the change makers of tomorrow. This course is delivered in collaboration with voluntary sector partners and will develop the voluntary and community sector leaders, activists and change makers of the future. This course will develop students who will be set to respond to local and national anti-poverty agendas. The course is framed in participation and action and our aim as a Civic University is to offer a high quality, voluntary work and activism based degree that holds the expertise of those with lived experience of poverty as central to its values and critical to achieving lasting change and real impact. This course is unique in that it is framed around the knowledge held by lived experience of poverty and hardship. The degree is a collaboration between Staffordshire University and the Local Voluntary and Community Sector and is co-designed to offer integrated work based placements, reflective learning from activism and critical analysis of anti-poverty theory. Students are welcomed from all backgrounds, however students from backgrounds of lived experience of poverty and hardship will be especially welcome. Our aim is to work, as a Civic University, to offer a high quality, voluntary work and activism based degree that creates the change makers of the future.

A broad range of assessment methods are used on the degree including reports, policy analysis, presentations, workplace reflections and simulated skills exercises.
