Course Summary

Business today is truly international; digital developments allow businesses of all sizes to access customers and suppliers from around the world. Apps developed on one side of the world can transform markets on the other. Governments sometimes find it hard to cope with this new world order, and the role of geopolitics is now a key function in the way international organisations operate across national boundaries. Consequently, countries revise and develop trading arrangements on frequently, making it difficult for international companies to develop their business strategies. Success in international business management involves an understanding of global, social, economic, financial and business developments. Intercultural management and the ability to establish and maintain profitable, effective and ethical relationships with other business and customers all over the world is also critical. International businesses require managers with these skill-sets to strengthen their domestic and international workforce. They are needed not solely within the field of general management, but also for a wide range of jobs in business, such as accountancy and finance, supply chain management, information technology, marketing, and human resources. This degree will equip you with the knowledge and skills needed to understand the challenges facing international organisations, large and small, operating in the private and charitable sectors. The course builds on contemporary international business management skills and approaches, giving you everything you need to succeed in a job at an organisation operating across national boundaries. A placement year enables students to undertake a year of experience in an organisation between their second and final year. It is a substantial piece of paid experience where you can make a real contribution to your employer and it can really make you stand out from the crowd! It will also enable you to: Apply the knowledge and skills you gain from your course in a work setting Build your commercial awareness and insights into organisations and industries you might want to work in. Develop your professional skills through company training, networking skills and confidence in the workplace Get some great experience for future job applications or even land a graduate job! Securing a placement can really help you develop your job search skills and the Employability Service placement and careers teams can support you to find and apply for available opportunities. You will need to attend some preparatory workshops which will explain all aspects of the placement year and give you the skills to find the placement of your choice. With access to our jobs board, careers events and employer contacts you will be able to approach companies confidently and find the right opportunity for you. Please note: in the event that you cannot secure a placement you will be able to transfer onto the 3 year version of your degree programme.
