Mechatronic engineering combines electrical and mechanical engineering to find solutions for systems that rely on mechanical elements, electrical power, sensing and control.
Our MEng Mechatronic Engineering degree can also be taken with an additional year in industry. The year in industry is taken after Year 2 or Year 3 and is assessed by academics and industry experts. This can be a great way to give you a competitive edge among graduate recruiters by showing you can relate your academic skills and knowledge to contemporary industrial practice.
Our five-year MEng Mechatronic Engineering degree builds on our BEng programme and has been specifically designed to meet the increasing demand from industry for engineers with cross-disciplinary skills in the field of robotics, flexible manufacturing, electromechanical power systems and electrical power transmission and distribution systems. You’ll investigate the problems of combining microelectronics, electrical and mechanical components into electromechanical devices or systems such as micro-machines, electric vehicles and industrial robots.

Course Details - Modules
This five-year MEng programme including a year in industry has been designed to maximise student choice by allowing you to tailor the degree structure to suit your own interests. During the first two years you will undertake a series of core modules, for example Electronic Circuits, Electronic Systems, Programming, Digital Systems and Microprocessors, Electrical Materials and Fields, and Mathematics for Electronic and Electrical Engineering. In your third and fourth years you can choose from a wide range of optional modules that reflect the specialist areas of electronic engineering that will take you to the leading edge of technology sought by industry. You will also work on an individual project with one of our research groups which will allow you to work at the frontier of knowledge.
