Uncover the secrets of life in the oceans with Southampton’s three-year multidisciplinary Marine Biology with Oceanography degree programme. You will be based at our unique Waterfront Campus at the world-leading National Oceanography Centre Southampton (NOCS). this programme will provide you with a solid foundation of the marine environment with a strong emphasis on biology. Students are able to make use of the excellent teaching labs and cutting-edge research labs as well as our research vessels which are only a 10 minute walk from the lecture theatres. You'll learn how marine plants and animals interact with their environment and respond to change. The course will give you knowledge about the biology of the marine environment, and how it relates to physical and chemical oceanography. Theory, field trips and lab work will prepare you for a career in research, wildlife management or government agencies. Our Marine Biology and Oceanography degree is accredited by the Institute of Marine Engineering, Science and Technology (IMarEST). Subject to revalidation.

We have a varied range of modules for all years. Examples of core modules for year one will include: Earth and Ocean System, Introduction to Functional Marine Biology, Introduction to Marine Ecology and Evolution, Introduction to Ocean Biogeochemistry, Key Skills for Marine Scientists, Marine Invertebrates, Physics of the Ocean, Statistical Computing for Marine Sciences. GCSEs: The University of Southampton requires all applicants to achieve at least a Grade 4 in English, Science and Mathematics GCSEs (taken in England) or a Grade C in both subjects (where taken in Northern Ireland or Wales).
