Course Summary

Taught by experts in their fields, you will study film across a wide range of countries and cultures, with modules on British, European, Chinese and world cinemas. You can study languages with film across a range of historical periods, with the option to specialise in European cinema. Our emphasis is on the specific cultural context in which films were produced, and the work of key film-makers and their influence on cinema as a whole. A year is spent studying abroad.

We welcome applicants with other qualifications eg. European Baccalaureate. You will be expected to attain an A level equivalent standard. The University of Southampton requires all applicants to achieve at least a Grade 4 in English and Mathematics GCSEs (taken in England) or a Grade C in both subjects (where taken in Northern Ireland or Wales).
