Course Summary

Our courses provide you with the fundamentals of engineering, alongside design modules throughout your degree, which enable you to apply your knowledge and develop the skills you need to become a successful engineer. This course provides a cross-over between civil engineering and architecture. You will develop key design skills and gain a solid understanding of each discipline. Focusing on the design of structures, materials, construction processes, and their importance in developing sustainable urban environments, this course is aimed at those who wish to pursue a career in structural engineering design. We offer our students a dynamic learning environment; your course will include a combination of lectures, laboratory classes, tutorials, private study, and individual and group projects.

Year 1: Mathematics; ThermoFluids; Mechanics, Structures and Materials; Design and Computing for Civil Engineers; Civil Engineering Fundamentals. Year 2: City Infrastructure Design Project; Liveable Cities; Structural Analysis; Structural Design and Materials; Mathematics; Soil Mechanics; Hydraulics; Numerical Methods. Year 3: Architecture 3, Individual Project, Structural Engineering, Geotechnical Engineering, Urban Design. Year 4: Architectural Group Design Project, Project Economics and Management, Architectural Engineering Project plus additional advanced module options.

Course Details – Assessment Method

Assessment is conducted through a combination of unseen written examinations and assessed coursework in the form of problem solving exercises, laboratory reports, design projects, essays, and individual and group projects. Experimental, research and design skills are assessed through laboratory reports, coursework exercises, dissertations and oral presentations.
