Course Summary
On this three-year course you'll gain a comprehensive knowledge of audiology and the clinical and professional skills needed to become an audiology healthcare professional. You’ll develop essential academic, professional and employability skills and receive clinical training from day one. You'll learn from practising clinicians and researchers at the cutting edge of audiology, at the only UK university with in-house audiology and auditory implant services. Throughout the course, you'll attend practical sessions in our dedicated skills laboratory, consolidating your skills during a 27-week placement, which starts at the end of year two and continues into year three.
We'll help you to prepare for your career, supporting you to work on a clinical training portfolio and a professional development portfolio that will stay with you throughout your working life. You'll also have the opportunity to meet representatives from the NHS, the private and charity sectors, and cochlear implant and hearing aid companies at our annual employability careers event.
Accredited by the Registration Council for Clinical Physiologists, the National School of Healthcare Science, British Society of Hearing Aid Audiologists, and Health and Care Professionals Council.
Course Details - Modules
Year One:
Immerse yourself in the biological, psychological, social and technical elements of audiology, alongside clinical and professional skills.
Modules –– Clinical and Professional Practice in Audiology I, Audiology Clinical Placement I, An Introduction to Professional Practice, Biopsychosocial Basis of Audiology, Introduction to Hearing Science and Technology.
Year Two:
Develop your scientific, clinical and professional skills further, including clincial decision making and patient-centred communication skills.
Modules –– Clinical and Professional Practice in Audiology II, Audiology Clinical Placement II, Facilitating Effective Auditory Rehabilitation I & II, Two optional modules from across the University
Year Three:
Study specialist areas of audiology and finalise your clinical training.
Modules –– Clinical and Professional Practice in Audiology III, Audiology Clinical Placement III, Individual Project, Introduction to Paediatric Audiology or Paediatric Audiology
Course Details – Assessment Method
A range of assessment methods are used on this programme to enable students to demonstrate their achievement of the intended learning outcomes. These include written examinations and assessments, oral presentations, individual and group work projects, Observed Structured Clinical Examinations (OSCEs), an Individual Record of Clinical Practice (IRCP) and Professional Development Portfolio (PDP).

We normally consider applicants who offer at least 1 Advanced Higher. Applicants presenting with only Highers will be considered on a case by case basis. Where Highers are taken over two years it might be expected that higher grades are achieved, particularly in any specific subjects required. For example, S5 – S6 (2 years): AABBB (A in specific subject) or S6 (1 year): ABBBB (A in specific subject).
Unless a more advanced level (Higher or Advanced Higher) is specified in the stated entry requirements, all applicants will be required to have achieved a pass in Mathematics and English at Standard Grade, Grade 3 or National 5, Grade C, the equivalent of GCSE Grade C/ Grade 4"

60 credits with a minimum of 45 credits at Level 3 of which 30 credits must be at Distinction and 15 credits at Merit

All applicants must pass a selection task assessing communication skills, values and knowledge of healthcare. Satisfactory enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service check (i.e. satisfactory criminal record check) and Occupational Health Check also required.
