Course Summary

With increasing globalisation, managing the international movement of trade and goods across the global transport network has become a highly specialised business. This one-year top-up course is designed to help you meet the demands of that growing industry, building on your existing studies and skills and developing a sophisticated, practical understanding of the interactions and complexity of managing international logistics operations. You will build a thorough and up-to-date foundation of skills in logistics and supply chain management, explore the processes involved in every step of the logistics and supply chain network, and learn to make decisions based on the latest theory and best practice from the industry. The degree is internationally diverse, reflecting the global nature of the industry and giving you the benefit of direct exposure to a range of cultural attitudes and approaches to business – as well as a network of global contacts. On graduating you’ll be able to make an immediate contribution in the workplace, having developed your practical business and managerial skills through study of real-world problems derived from the industry, and learned practicable applications of theoretical and technical concepts and processes. Taught by staff with a wide range of experience and knowledge, you will develop deep understanding and good judgement, an analytical approach to problem solving and an ability to communicate effectively – the ideal package of skills the industry is looking for. And our annual maritime conference brings professionals from all across the industry, as well as Solent alumni, to share their career experiences and help you refine and develop your professional connections. Enhance your existing experience and knowledge of the shipping industry by developing an understanding of the shore-side operations. **What does this course lead to?** The global maritime industry offers many career opportunities and graduates from this course will be well placed to pursue careers in supply chain management, international transportation, terminal operations, ship operations and logistics management. **Who is this course for?** This degree is suited to students who have an interest in the world of international transport, shipping, ports and logistics, combined with a desire to understand what drives this global industry and how to meet the needs of customers in a highly competitive arena.
