This practical degree encourages you to develop an extensive knowledge of computer programming using Java and Python. A range of projects will also help you build practical experience in designing, building and implementing computer systems, culminating in a major final-year software development project. Thanks to the course teams close links with industry, the curriculum is informed through a range of guest speakers, live briefs and access to regular British Computer Society (The Chartered Institute for IT) meetings, held at the University. Professional practice also extends into the curriculum with several current staff accredited in Prince2, Oracle Java and SQL, E-C Council Certified Ethical Hacker and through the Solent University Cisco Academy. Course Details – Assessment Method

You will be assessed through a mixture of group and individual coursework, report writing, presentations, time-constrained class tests, online tests, portfolios, practical demonstrations and project work. Our approach to teaching, learning and assessment uses a wide variety of methods to take into consideration the variety of learning styles shown by students. This includes using video capture of lectures, which supports learning needs and is of significant benefit to those studying on a flexible or part-time basis.

• Direct entry to years 2 (Level 5) or 3 (Level 6) We welcome applications from students currently studying a Foundation Degree, DipHE, HNC, HND or modules of an undergraduate degree course at another university, who wish to enter directly into Years 2 or 3 of one of our undergraduate degree courses. • Level 5 (year 2) entry To directly enter the second year of this course you will need to show appropriate knowledge and experience.
