Course Summary

This course will give you the knowledge, practical experience and confidence to pursue a career in the make-up industry as a professional make-up artist for theatre, fashion, video and television. It is aimed at dedicated learners who want to move into the creative industries or further training, and are looking for practical training and a nationally-recognised Level 5 qualification (Title: HND Performing Arts (General)). This full time course is delivered by experienced professionals who are experts in the industry and have extensive industry and teaching profiles. The course has a strong focus on prosthetics and leads directly to our BA (Hons) Top up qualification validated by UWL.

Course Details - Modules

Skills covered are tailored to industry requirements. The course is practically driven but it also demands academic ability to build a solid grounding in production theory, industry knowledge, and business skills. Successful completion of the HND will require the accumulation of 120 credits from the modules studied. Modules studied include: •Design Techniques and Application - In this module you will develop your total look skills and design ideas •Advanced prosthetics - It is critical that artists understand the creative responsibilities of the Prosthetics Artist and new developments in technology and product use e.g. CGI, that you be able to understand anatomy and physiology in relation to prosthetic design and develop those all important technical skills to industry standards. •Managing a creative business - You will explore how to set up and manage a successful creative business to ensure you are ready to take those critical steps into industry. •Photographic Techniques – As part of your total look skills you will enjoy taking and digitally manipulating photographs of your design work. •Preparation, Process, and Production in the Creative Industries – In this module you will work with external companies to set up and run a national event •Work Experience and Personal and Professional Development – You will be supported to find and undertake significant work experience to build your contact links and experience. •Postiche and wig making in the creative industries - Develop your wig and postiche making skills to produce a final look.

Applicants must possess a Level 4 HNC Performing Arts in order to be considered for this course. A copy of your HNC module transcripts will be requested, and the original required to be seen at enrolment. If you don't already have a relevant HNC, you'll take the two-year course and start at HNC (Level 4).
