Course Summary
This course will give you the knowledge, practical experience and confidence to pursue a career in the make-up industry as a professional make-up artist for theatre, fashion, video and television. It is aimed at dedicated learners who want to move into the creative industries or further training, and are looking for practical training and a nationally-recognised Level 4 qualification (Title: HNC Performing Arts (General)). This full time course is delivered by experienced professionals who are experts in the industry and have extensive industry and teaching profiles.
The course has a strong focus on prosthetics and leads directly to our HND qualification.
Course Details - Modules
Successful completion of the HNC will require the accumulation of 120 credits from the modules studied. Modules studied include:
•Stage Craft - Stagecraft is the team working of the backstage crew in a production. This unit has been designed to introduce the learners to the principles and practicalities of backstage team work during a live production. Learners will undertake a role in one department, developing and evidencing a full understanding of what that role requires.
•Hair and makeup application for film and TV – You will explore specialised techniques for use in film and TV work. You will be able to explore your work in our high spec HD TV studio.
•Special Effects – Skills in Facial Postiche, SPFX and Prosthetics will be developed as you work with production teams on live performances in our industry standard theatre. Including: head casts, sculpting wounds, working with resin cores, silicone, clay, life casting in silicone.
•Period Hair and Make-up – In this unit you will widen your knowledge of hair and makeup styles that are relevant to the era, you will use materials and techniques that are used in television, film and theatre productions.
•Fashion Editorial – In a creative and inspirational environment, you will experiment with a variety of skills to promote a finished image suitable for photographic, promotional, editorial and catwalk.
•Production communication - With any event, show or production, a cohesive team is essential. To ensure the smooth running of a production, communication requires an in-depth understanding of all areas of a performance. You will look in to advanced technologies, methods of communication within the performing industry.
•Professional development - Industry knowledge will underpin practical skills. Participants will develop a well-presented CV and be supported to develop an industry-level profile as a creative designer. Knowledge about agencies, unions, relevant legal and statutory frameworks and funding will enable you to progress to self-employment/employment fully equipped with the skills needed to make a success of your enterprise.
•Performing arts industry - You will have a clear understanding of how the performing arts industry works and the steps that are required to access employment opportunities. Students will also have developed their understanding of health and wellbeing within the performing arts environment.
