Course Summary

The course incorporates a wide range of Fine Art practices with an emphasis on contemporary drawing and is designed to reflect an experimental approach to creative practice, although all the assignment briefs are very open. Some projects are carried out in small groups but you are given the opportunity to develop your individual creativity whilst learning a range of technical skills. There is a contextual studies element to the course to provide theory and history to support your practice.

Course Details - Modules

The HNC course consists of eight units written by the awarding body, Pearson. These form the basis of your course, although they have been adapted to fit assignment briefs appropriate to the course. The units are as follows: Professional Development (15 credits at level 4) Contextual Studies (15 credits at level 4) Individual Project (Pearson Set) (15 credits at level 4) Techniques & Processes (15 credits at level 4) Media Practices (15 credits at level 4) Material Practices (15 credits at level 4) Principles of Lifedrawing (15 credits at level 4) Art/Craft Production (15 credits at level 5)

Course Details – Assessment Method

Work is assessed through a variety of assignments, all of which have to be passed in order to achieve the 8 units which make up the HNC Diploma. Most practical assignments take place within class time but you will need to do additional work outside of this time in order to produce artwork, presentations and other written work. You will sometimes need to work on your project outcomes outside of college times.
