This is a Level 4 stand alone qualification that is the first year of our Degree Programme which is focused on processes, skills and understanding sculptural materials. The course can be studied on a full time basis over one academic year, or part time over two years and will enable those students who are unable to commit to studying for a full BA Honours Degree.
Taught in well equipped studios through practical hands-on sessions, students learn to work in metal casting, modelling, fabrication, hand carving of stone and wood and drawing in dedicated workshops in small group sizes learning through practical experience in a safe inclusive environment.
Our purpose built art school offers you individual workshops and studios for life-drawing, metal casting in our foundry, woodworking, plaster work, stone carving and metal fabrication.
The course supports the development of your studio practice with an emphasis on learning the craft and skill of making sculpture within a concenptual framework. Lectures focused on contextual studies and dialogue enable you to position yourself and your practice in terms of art history and contemporary critical thought, in order to equip you with tools to map and research your own subject matters. This taught creative thinking ability associated with fine art sculptural practice is becoming increasingly important in the world of commerce and business.
