Course Summary

The course philosophy is built upon learning through making and material experimentation coupled with the importance of individual discovery informed by personal research. Practical workshops, teaching traditional and contemporary processes in both ceramics and jewellery, are delivered to small groups, where students explore their ideas and design potential through expressive 3D making. Students are tutored by experienced makers with their own professional practice and tutor contact is second to none. This team of highly motivated staff is focused on identifying students’ talents, honing both practical and critical skills and facilitating the student’s individual creative voice. At Carmarthen School of Art, we believe that these combined elements lie at the heart of good design and are fundamental in the making of quality contemporary work. By the third year students are able to specialize in specific areas of ceramics and jewellery or develop work across the two markets with exciting potential for producing mixed media artifacts in a range of art, design and craft contexts.
