Course Summary

Sheffield is among the Russell Group top ten for research output in this discipline, so you can expect to encounter concepts that will expand your horizons. The fourth year includes a major research project, led by an academic. Our expertise covers a lot of ground, including scientific programming and practical and applied statistics. Statisticians are in demand across the public and private sectors, in healthcare, economics, computer science, engineering, ecology – just about everywhere. This course is designed to prepare you for a career as a specialist. Even if you decided to pursue a different type of career – in financial management or marketing for example – it’s likely you would find these skills very useful. Our graduates continue to surprise us, pursuing careers in everything from advertising to weather forecasting. Many go into finance, as accountants or actuaries, with firms like KPMG and PricewaterhouseCoopers. Other employers include GCHQ, British Airways and the European Space Agency.
