Course Summary

This interdisciplinary course is perfect if you’re interested in all aspects of engineering but you don’t want to decide on a specialism just yet. But there is another compelling reason to choose this route: Graduates with expertise in more than one area are in demand because they’re flexible. They bring extra insight to projects. They work very well in teams because they see the bigger picture. The course structure is solid. In the first two years, you will get a grounding in these areas of engineering: aerospace, biological, chemical, civil, electrical, energy and sustainability, materials, mechanical, software and systems. In the third years, you can either specialise in one of them or continue to study multiple disciplines. Practical experience, learning how to be an engineer, is part of the curriculum at every level. Our students work on research led by academics, and on group design and build projects. Everyone takes part in the faculty’s Global Engineering Challenge, a team exercise designed to make you a better professional. We also offer all our students the chance to get a year’s work experience, fully paid. Sheffield is one of the best universities in the UK for engineering. All seven of our engineering departments are highly rated for their specialisms. Our reputation for world-leading research attracts the biggest names in industry. For our students, that means high-quality teaching, first-rate facilities, and courses designed in consultation with industry partners. Our graduates work all over the world for companies including Arup, Rolls-Royce, Boeing and IBM.
