Course Summary

Sheffield is one of only a few universities in the north of England with a stand-alone economics department. Our staff are internationally respected. They advise UK government departments and international organisations such as the World Bank. The department is large enough to cover a lot of specialist topics, which means more choice for you. We also offer the option of a year-long work placement with a relevant organisation. The economics side of the course has more emphasis on advanced technical skills than a BA, which is appropriate for students with A Level maths. The maths side is designed to complement your economics studies and enhance your job prospects. In the second and third years, you will spend roughly half your time in the School of Mathematics and Statistics. Some of our graduates become professional economists. Others go into related professions such as banking, insurance and accounting. Some work for organisations such as Deloitte, Nestle, Rolls-Royce, the Office of Budget Responsibility and the Houses of Parliament.
