Course Summary

The great advantage here is that you get to spend a year in industry without extending the length of your course. During the placement year, you will be paid a salary of around £15,000. When it comes to teaching, you can expect quality, consistency and lots of practical experience. All of our courses are accredited by professional societies. You will spend at least one day every week in a laboratory. And there are weekly small-group tutorials so we can make sure you’re getting all the support you need. The four-year MChem is more advanced than a BSc and includes a major research project. Graduates work all over the world in the pharmaceutical industry, fine chemicals, materials and bioscience for companies such as Unilever and GlaxoSmithKline. But their problem-solving abilities and their high level of numeracy are valued outside the sector, in financial services, IT, management and teaching.
