Sheffield is an exciting place to study chemistry. Two of our graduates and two former professors are Nobel Prize winners. Staff here are working on potentially world-changing projects, including catalytic clothing that purifies air, and sustainable energy and food production.
When it comes to teaching, you can expect quality, consistency and lots of practical experience. In the first year there are six hours of lab work every week.
Graduates work all over the world in the pharmaceutical industry, fine chemicals, materials and bioscience for companies such as Unilever and GlaxoSmithKline. But their problem-solving abilities and their high level of numeracy are valued outside the sector, in financial services, IT, management and teaching.
