Please check the Sheffield Hallam University website for the latest information.** **Course summary:** - Learn the skills you'll need to become a professional industrial designer or technological product designe - Challenge existing thinking and create engaging, sustainable and ‘disruptive’ market-ready product designs. - Experiment with technologies, techniques, materials and processes in state-of-the-art studios. - Develop the advanced digital visualisation, analysis and production skills that employers look for. This course prepares you for an exciting career as a globally-minded designer, equipped to identify and respond to future challenges. You’ll experience employability-driven learning through real-world projects. You'll be equipped with the visual and technical skills necessary to become an industrial designer or technological product designer. **How you learn:** You'll learn from staff who are actively involved in research and commercial design delivery. Through our engaging project briefs, you'll explore creative thinking, sustainable design, enabling technologies, new product development, advanced 3D CAD and design for manufacture. These experiences help you to innovate and instigate change. Linked to the leading Design Futures Research and Consultancy Group, the course offers unique 'real-time' insights that allow you to develop your professional design and research & development skills. You learn through: - studio-based design projects (individual/group) - lectures - technical skills workshops - work experiences and placements - live design projects - field trips - presentations and feedback sessions - work review sessions - studio-based design projects - blackboard online learning portal **Applied learning - Work placements** You'll have opportunities to arrange single or multiple work placement/s in between your second and third years. Placements give you real-world experience to prepare for your future career. Previous students have secured placements with companies including Black & Decker, Bosch, DePuy Synthes, Gripple and JCB. **Live projects** You'll engage in authentic work experiences in each year of the course, working with external partners and live briefs. We have excellent relationships with a vast range of companies – from exciting start-ups to large multinational organisations. You'll undertake a range of projects set by external organisations. You’ll build competencies as you apply design thinking from taught sessions to real-world contexts, pitching project outcomes to company representatives and potentially receiving payment for designs. Recently our students have worked on consumer electronics, the Internet of Things (IOT) and sustainable ‘circular economy’ products. **Field trips** We offer opportunities to go on study trips and visits in the UK and abroad – with free travel and accommodation for all mandatory field trips on the course. These could include workshops, design exhibitions or visits to practitioners’ studios and museums. Recent trip destinations include the Design Museum, BMW i3 factory and McLaren. There may be opportunities to further enhance your studies with optional field trips, though these will incur additional costs. **Networking opportunities** Sheffield Hallam's Careers Connect mentoring scheme allows you to gain professional insights and support from a personal mentor working in your field of interest. We also organise an annual two-day employability event, allowing you to network with commercial partners and participate in one-to-one portfolio reviews. Our annual degree show is a great opportunity for graduating students to showcase their work.

Standard Qualification Requirements

This must include at least 64 points from two A levels, or equivalent BTEC National qualifications (to include a relevant subject such as Art, Design or Graphics). For example: BBC at A Level. DMM in BTEC Extended Diploma. A combination of qualifications, which may include AS levels, EPQ and general studies.

Access - an Access to HE Diploma with at least 45 credits at level 3 and 15 credits at level 2. At least 18 level 3 credits must be at merit grade or above, in a media-related programme from a QAA-recognised Access to HE course, or an equivalent Access to HE certificate. • Diploma in Foundation Studies (Art and Design) - pass
