**Course summary:**
- Examine the design, implementation and support of secure network systems.
- Work in teams to design networks and network security.
- Recognise the professional and ethical issues involved in designing and deploying IT systems.
Gain the skills to set up and run a computer network, with a robust understanding of the hardware and software involved. You cover the practicalities of wireless technologies, LAN and WAN implementation and network security. One third of the year is devoted to an individual project in an aspect of IT networks.
**How you learn:**
All our courses are designed around a set of key principles based on engaging you with the world, collaborating with others, challenging you to think in new ways, and providing you with a supportive environment in which you can thrive.
You specialise in the practical study of building network systems that support the needs of organisations. You will be exposed to a variety of teaching approaches including demonstrations of practical work and step-by-step network systems development.

**Applied learning - Live projects**
One third of the year involves a substantial project or dissertation. You have a project supervisor who provides one-to-one supervision and support. You're able to define IT projects that pursue your personal interests and that develop your practical skills or knowledge. Some work is on projects suggested by employers.
**Networking opportunities**
Throughout the year there are a number of opportunities for you to be involved in career management events, career fairs and workshops, employer presentations and visits. The course includes the frequent involvement of employers and IT professionals.
