The course is suitable for students who want to become forensic accountants, but also for students who are interested in accounting with an investigative and legal perspective. **How you learn:** All our courses are designed around a set of key principles based on engaging you with the world, collaborating with others, challenging you to think in new ways, and providing you with a supportive environment in which you can thrive. The course is suitable if you don't meet the entry requirements for our BA (Hons) Forensic Accounting course, or you want extra preparation before starting degree-level study. You share the first year with other Sheffield Business School foundation year students, then move on to the degree. The course is organised in to six modules each academic year, with modules taught in large and small groups . It adopts an activity-based and student-centred approach, taking place both within formal teaching sessions and during guided and independent study undertaken by you, including collaborative group work. To support guided and independent study, you are provided with tasks, exercises, resources, and references to additional useful learning materials, to access, utilise and respond to as part of your study programme. You learn through: - lectures - seminars - workshops - group work - independent study In the foundation year, you'll study wider business topics, while specialising in your chosen subject area. You'll learn useful skills such as academic writing, work in diverse teams and learn to utilise a wide variety of data sources. In doing so, you'll fully prepare yourself for undergraduate study. **Applied learning:** All modules make a significant contribution to employability by providing you with a real life context to the topics covered, and by requiring you to use skills such as independent research, teamwork and presentations. This is done by using case studies, real life examples and scenarios, engaging you in the study and evaluation of industry sectors while developing key graduate skills such as literacy, critical thinking, personal organisation and time management. There are specific employability modules at each level of the degree, which allow you to gain a good understanding of the roles available to you. They help you understand how to go about searching and applying for such roles, culminating in the final year consultancy project that enables you to demonstrate your critical and problem solving capabilities and the opportunity to be creative and innovative. During year four, we help and encourage you to complete an optional one year paid work placement. This enables you to apply and develop your knowledge and skills in a real business environment. Forensic accounting students have benefitted hugely from obtaining placements with employers such as PwC, Audit Partnership, Interserve and GE.
