- Prepare for the degree with an extra foundation year at the start.
- Learn the specific skills needed to create memorable event experiences, both physically and virtually, demonstrating business value for employers and clients.
- Study the essential aspects of planning and delivering safe and effective events, from delivering persuasive pitches to delivering the event itself.
- Specialise in the area of your choice.
- In a fast-growing industry, take on the challenge of delivering memorable events. At the end of your second year you can choose to specialise in one of the following four areas tourism, arts and entertainment, experiential marketing, or leisure management and sports events. Your final degree will reflect the specialism in its title, boosting your career prospects in that field.
**How you learn**
All our courses are designed around a set of key principles based on engaging you with the world, collaborating with others, challenging you to think in new ways, and providing you with a supportive environment in which you can thrive.
The course is suitable if you don't meet the entry requirements for our BSc (Hons) Events Management course, or you want extra preparation before starting degree-level study. You share the first year with other Sheffield Business School foundation year students, then move on to the degree.
You develop your skills through a combination of seminars and workshops, by attending lectures and by completing projects. International and national field trips, site visits and work with external organisations enhance your engagement and understanding of the complexities and challenges of operating in the international events industry.
Other methods used include
- live events
- guest speakers
- problem solving exercises
- case studies
- individual and group presentations
- directed learning activities
- This course includes two externally accredited (industry recognised) qualifications: the BIIAB Level 2 Award for Personal License Holders and the IOSH Managing Events Safely award. Both enhance your employability and are included for free.
In the foundation year, you'll study wider business topics, while specialising in your chosen subject area. You'll learn useful skills such as academic writing, work in diverse teams and learn to utilise a wide variety of data sources. In doing so, you'll fully prepare yourself for undergraduate study.
**Applied learning**
**Work placements**
You will have the opportunity to undertake a year-long work placement in between your third and fourth years. This gives you a real-world experience to prepare you for your future career. Through our strong relationships with employers we can help you to secure a valuable placement opportunity and support you whilst you're there. We have a team of staff and tutors who will support you to find the placement that suits your ambitions.
Alternatively, you can complete the Learning in the Workplace semester where you work and study at the same time, with academic lessons carried out remotely during allocated study periods while on placement. This is recognised by the University as a placement and offers you a quicker way to complete your studies and gain work experience in four rather than five years. By successfully completing this experience, you will be able to obtain 'placement' in your degree title and enter directly into the final year of studies.
