This revolution is characterised by a fusion of technologies that is blurring the lines between physical and digital. The course prepares you for the development, design, and implementation of contemporary technologies taking on board the dynamic factors that characterise the modern world. The many facets of Smart Technologies, from both software and hardware perspectives, are considered as part of your learning. **How you learn** All our courses are designed around a set of key principles based on engaging you with the world, collaborating with others, challenging you to think in new ways, and providing you with a supportive environment in which you can thrive. This course is focused on helping you to develop strong practical and applied skills to develop and exploit smart applications. It develops your knowledge and judgement as to how and when to use appropriate tools and technologies. Problem-based Learning allows for the introduction, development and implementation of advanced technologies focusing on real-life data, problems, and situations. This exposed you early to conditions that you will face when they graduate and enter the job market. The course includes an optional placement year in industry. You learn through: - lectures - lab sessions - tutorials - individual guided studies - teamwork and group-based learning - practice-based applied learning **Applied learning** **Work placements** You will have the opportunity to arrange a year-long work placement in between your second and third years. This gives you a real-world experience to prepare you for your future career, apply what you have learnt and learn new industry-based skills and processes. A specialist college placement team helps you through the process of getting a placement and provides support while you are on placement. Although a placement year is not mandatory, the department has a strong track record in finding placements for many of our students. **Live projects** All years of your study are designed with applied learning in mind using industry-based and industry-inspired projects. The course includes professional projects that challenge you to solve real work problems with an external client where possible, while developing team and project management skills. These projects allow you to practise more than just your technical computing skills. By working with real companies, you can apply the project management techniques and technical skills you have learned and test your interpersonal and time management skills. In the final year, you undertake an individual project on an IT topic of your choice. Under the guidance of a supervisor, you will demonstrate the technical skills and professional competencies developed throughout the course, culminating in an academic dissertation.

Standard Qualification Requirements

This must include at least 64 points from two A levels or equivalent BTEC National qualifications. For example: BBC at A Level. DMM in BTEC Extended Diploma. A combination of qualifications, which may include AS Levels, EPQ and general studies

Access - an Access to HE Diploma with at least 45 credits at level 3 and 15 credits at level 2. At least 15 level 3 credits must be at merit grade or above, from a QAA-recognised Access to HE course, or an equivalent Access to HE certificate.
