**Course summary:**
- Prepare for the degree with an extra foundation year at the start.
- Find out which areas of business you're best at, and design your own path to your chosen career.
- Become confident, inquisitive and empowered as you work autonomously but also develop relationships of teamwork and cooperation with others.
- Develop the skills to succeed in the business world, and gain the confidence and qualities that employers really want.
No two students have the same experience on this course. The variety of optional modules means you create your own business studies degree, exploring which areas of business you want to work in and specialising in your areas of interest.
**How you learn:**
All our courses are designed around a set of key principles based on engaging you with the world, collaborating with others, challenging you to think in new ways, and providing you with a supportive environment in which you can thrive.
The course is suitable if you don't meet the entry requirements for our BA (Hons) Business Studies course, or you want extra preparation before starting degree-level study. You share the first year with other Sheffield Business School foundation year students, then move on to the degree.
The course content is delivered using a variety of teaching techniques. You are assessed using a mixture of innovative coursework tasks and exams.
You learn through:
- traditional academic-led lectures
- case-study based workshops
- assimilation to create an experimental environment of learning
In the foundation year, you'll study wider business topics, while specialising in your chosen subject area. You'll learn useful skills such as academic writing, work in diverse teams and learn to utilise a wide variety of data sources. In doing so, you'll fully prepare yourself for undergraduate study.
**Applied learning - Work placements**
You will be actively encouraged and supported to take up a placement year. You are offered the chance to undertake placements nationally and internationally. Many students do placements each year with corporations in New York, California, Florida, Dubai, Australia, Hong Kong, the Maldives and other destinations. You may also study a language and you are offered a chance to study in more than 40 European institutions for either a year or semester.
**Networking opportunities**
As a student at Sheffield Business School you benefit from being part of a vibrant community and you are part of the student-led Business and Management Society for peer support and networking opportunities. We also pay for you to be an associate member of the Chartered Management Institute during your course, giving you access to their networking events and helping you build up your LinkedIn contacts for when you start your career.
