The course offers students the use of industry standard film and television production and editing equipment and facilities to study aspects of media and film making both in the college television studio and on location. You will have access to 4K cameras, Cine lenses as well as professional software such as Final Cut Pro X, Adobe Creative Suite, using Audition After Effects. The new build Hillsborough creative wing of the college houses a fully digital television studio that you will use for assessment and client projects. There is a strong work based learning ethos that will help build links with the wider Sheffield community and beyond to gain experience of working on realistic assignments. Validated by Sheffield Hallam University, this course has a strong emphasis on practical media production. Students benefit from small groups with good access to tutors, facilities and technical support. The course explores a wide variety of media production forms responding to the ever changing nature of the industry. The course is centred on vocational training, working closely with local and national employers to create a programme of study that addresses the real needs of the current media production market. Course Aims The course aims to develop and improve skills, knowledge, understanding, versatility and adaptability for employment in the Media Production sector and related creative industries. In addition there is a mandate to widen and increase participation in higher education through delivery of the vocational knowledge and skills required for employment and the provision of a progression route to towards other qualifications, for example an honours degree. Attendance Study will be over 3 or 4 days in college with an expectation that work will also be completed outside of college. Students will be required to undertake work based learning activities which may include traditional placements, client based projects and live competitions. Where does it lead? We are able to offer a full-time route of progression to Level 6 here at the College on our BA Hons (Top Up) Creative Practice: Media Production course as well as the opportunity to be considered for a place on the BA (Hons) Film & Media Production degree at Sheffield Hallam University, for which students will receive an invitation to attend an interview provided that they submit an application via UCAS by the deadline. Please note that GCSE Maths and English Language, or equivalents are required for entry to the top-up at Sheffield Hallam University and GCSE English Language at grade C/4 or above (or equivalent) is required for the top up at the College. Where necessary the College will support students in achieving these required levels whilst completing the foundation degree. Applicants who are studying for SHU-validated foundation degrees and who wish to progress to part-time study on the designated honours degree progression route will apply directly to the University. Careers in media production are diverse, ranging from freelance production work to employment in small commercial production facilitates or with major TV or radio production companies. The foundation degree can also be a starting point for careers in teaching, marketing and management.

Assessment will be formative and diagnostic as well as summative and evaluative, providing feedback to students wherever appropriate. Students will be participants in the assessment process through strategies such as the group critique, where students present and discuss their work with peers and tutors. Assessment methods can include: Essays Examinations Presentations Critiques Projects Reviews Reports Planning and organising of a short field trip is also required. Students will receive regular formative and summative feedback, both written and verbal.

Residential Study Visits Please note that there is an additional cost of up to £130 for a 4-day residential field trip.
