Course Summary

The Business Management top-up degree is a one year, full time course for students who wish to top up their existing foundation degree to a full Bachelor of Arts qualification. You will study subjects such as international management and marketing, as well as organisational psychology in sport, in order to give you a well rounded knowledge of your field. You will also undertake a major business project. About the Course Validated by The Open University, this one year BA (Hons) top up degree is an exciting course which aims to develop multi-skilled and resourceful graduates who have developed detailed specialist knowledge and a broad ranging understanding of the global, national, regional and local business environment. Graduates will be aware of the impact of management decisions and have a variety of skills to enable them to function within the global management. The course year comprises of two semesters. In the first semester (September to January), students will study three, 20 credit core modules.  In the second semester (January to May) students will study one 20 credit module and a 40 credit final major project. Some lectures and other sessions with be shared with students studying on other pathways, the BA (Hons) (Top-up) Events Management and the BA (Hons) (Top-up) Sports which will contextualise and strengthen learning. Course Composition Students can expect to spend aprox. 15 hours per week in structured study, spending a maximum of 3 days per week in college. Students are expected to spend a similar amount of time in self-directed study. Please note that study days and timetables will be confirmed over the summer and will be made available to applicants as soon as possible. Teaching Staff You will be taught by staff who have extensive experience and/or who are currently working professionally in their area of business, as a well as educationally by lecturers, thus combining theory and practice in order to develop a deeper awareness of the current sector, its trends and professional requirements.

Course Details – Assessment Method

Formal methods of teaching will include lectures, seminars, tutorials and workshops. This work will be enhanced by access to the wider range of technological and support facilities available within the college, and from external speakers. In addition, active/participative learning will cover simulation, role play, presentations, case studies, project work, practical activities, visits and workshops, all of which will build upon the experience and practice of the student, and afford opportunities for self-reflection.
