Course Summary

**IF YOU LOVE TO DESIGN AND CREATE, THEN THIS COULD BE THE DEGREE FOR YOU!** For the consecutive year, SGS has been voted **number 1 for overall degree satisfaction in Bristol!** (National Student Survey 2020 and 2021) This course will be taught from Stroud School of Art, which was established in the 1850's. Stroud Art School is located at the SGS Stroud Campus next to Stratford Park, Stroud. Stroud Art School has a long-standing reputation for nurturing artistic talent and creativity. The core aim of the FdA Design and Materials course is to enable you, the student, to begin to find your individual identity as a designer and maker and to help you locate yourself in the wider world of the creative industries in relevant ways. It is aimed at students who wish to develop areas including studio ceramics, jewellery, textiles, print and enamelling, taking advantage of the established reputation for these specialisms at Bristol School of Art, Queens Road and Stroud School of Art at SGS College. The course is interdisciplinary in nature (enabling and encouraging you to work in more than one material or process area) and you will explore a wide range of media and processes to arrive at your own direction, whilst actively taking part in creative conversations and debates in the studio, in workplaces (visits and placements) and through our lecture and seminar programme. A lively and experimental approach is encouraged; practical workshops will allow you to explore and develop skills using a wide range of 2D and 3D materials, and digital media. It is regarded as critical to your development that you are free to move between areas and can seek out and devise means to combine materials and processes as appropriate to your aims. **For more information please email us at:-headmissions@sgscol.ac.uk**
