Course Summary

**Our Marine Biology foundation year is an excellent route into science for those from a non-scientific background seeking to develop their career along a biological pathway; it is also ideal if you're returning to education or do not meet the entry requirements for direct entry to an Honours degree.** This course will provide you with a strong foundation in science, allowing you to progress onto the Bachelors degree in Marine Biology , within the School of Science, Engineering and Environment. Our oceans are filled with delicate ecosystems and amazing wildlife, but all of this is in danger. The human and environmental impact on ocean life is becoming increasingly apparent; develop the necessary skills to manage and preserve our oceans and have a positive impact on our natural world. Thanks to the supportive learning environment, during the full honours degree you will gain a systematic understanding of key aspects of the marine environment, as well as a detailed insight into the industry that relies on it. The curriculum is contemporary and will enhance employability through the University’s collaboration initiative. Practical training is particularly relevant and will be delivered during two residential fieldtrips. The first one will be carried out in Scotland, at the renowned FSC Millport Field Station. The second trip will be to Kavala, Greece, in collaboration with the national Fisheries Research Institute. Features • Tailor your second, and third year modules (of the full honours degree) to include your particular areas of interest • Gain an understanding of ecological issues facing marine managers alongside the socioeconomic, governance, equality and ethical pressures affecting their work • Gain real-world context for your studies through residential field trips and an optional placement year
