Human Biology and Infectious Diseases with a Foundation Year
Course Summary
**Our foundation year is an excellent route into science for those either from a non-scientific background or seeking to develop their career in a new direction; it is also ideal if you're returning to education or do not meet the entry requirements for direct entry to an Honours degree.**
This course will provide you with a strong foundation in science, allowing you to progress onto the Bachelor’s degree in Human Biology and Infectious Diseases, within the School of Science, Engineering and Environment.
On the full BSc course you will gain a systematic understanding of the key aspects of human biology and infectious diseases whilst developing practical laboratory skills within a supportive environment with excellent facilities. In addition, you will study specialist modules in areas such as Pathophysiology and Veterinary and Zoonotic Infectious Diseases.
This degree is ideal for careers in biomedicine, sports science, health care, health promotion, pharmaceutical and food industries and forensic science, both in the UK and internationally. Many of our graduates have been employed by large organisations such as AstraZeneca and the Cancer Research UK Manchester Institute. Others have continued on to postgraduate study, either taught science Masters courses, research degrees or teaching qualifications.
