From Harry Potter in film to Hollyoaks on TV and in stage productions such as The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time and The Book of Mormon, scenic designers help bring stories to life. Become part of the excitement by studying for a Film, TV and Stage Design degree at the University of Salford.
This three-year programme will prepare you for entering the Film, TV and Stage industry and working within a professional art department, designing sets for drama, light entertainment and film; on stage, on location, in a TV studio or a sound stage. You’ll graduate with the practical skills and knowledge needed to go into professional roles in scenic design, art direction, prop making, location management and more.
This course is centred around project-based modules that will develop your understanding of the processes involved in production design, all while making the most of your artistic ability whilst developing new creative skills. From interpreting scripts, through construction drawings, storyboards and visual representation, you’ll get hands-on experience of every aspect of the design process. What’s more, you’ll also cover elements such as location scouting and surveying, stage and location management, sourcing props and set dressing, and the management of budgets and production schedules.
Feeling inspired? As if all that’s not enough, this film, TV and stage design course also has strong industry links. You will have the opportunity to work on live, real-world briefs, as well the chance to pursue work placement opportunities with external organisations, giving insight into what the industry is really like, as well as adding some fantastic experience to your CV. Take a look at some of the work our final year students have produced on this course.
