Course Summary

This programme will give you the skills to understand the challenges and contribute to the solutions of major global issues. You will cover topics such as natural resource management, wildlife conservation, animal welfare, agro-forestry, ecology and community supported agriculture. The course has been developed in collaboration with the Soil Association Food for Life programme that aims to ‘make good food the easy choice for everyone’ in schools, nurseries, hospitals and care homes. This four-year degree programme includes a traditional campus-based experience and work-based learning modules which are designed to encourage you to understand the reality of the work environment and opportunities for innovation. You will be fully supported by the RAU with scheduled visits to campus to share your experiences with your teaching team and learn from other students. Your final project is an opportunity for you to demonstrate your skills and knowledge, to build your CV and support your career goals. Working with colleagues, you will select a real world problem to focus on in an area that interests you. This could be developing a specialist interest in food production or marketing, landscape, technology, social enterprise or policy innovation. **Work placement** Designed by industry, this course will provide you with the skills required by future employers, and to make a positive impact within the food and farming sectors. In your second year will complete a two-week work placement between April-September. Companies include Brakes Food, Creed Food Services, and NSF International. The one year placement in Year 3, is designed to enable students to complete a relevant enhanced work placement experience to help them identify future career choices and enhance relevant skills sets sought by employers. It is an additional module that students can choose to take after their work experience at Level 5. The module allows students to develop a deeper understanding and gain further experience in a relevant business or employment area to enhance their work experience at Level 5. Students are expected to experience and engage in various aspects of their chosen industry from an operational to practical working.
