Course Summary

Improve the well-being of others and build a rewarding career by studying the Therapeutic Psychology BA at Roehampton. 100% of our Psychology research is rated ‘world leading’ or ‘internationally excellent’ for its impact. This BA Therapeutic Psychology degree will be your first step to a career in psychology or therapy. The course combines Roehampton’s well-established strengths in counselling, psychology, and arts and play therapies. It is designed for students who would like a career in the helping professions, without becoming a chartered psychologist. You will be taught by leading psychology and counselling experts and practitioners who bring their real life experiences into the classroom. You will develop a range of skills designed to your skills and broaden your theoretical understanding of the mind and develop your practical experience, and personal development. This well-rounded learning approach, alongside voluntary work experience, will give you a strong foundation for your career in the therapy field or further education within postgraduate training courses. We offer modules that will give you excellent first-hand counselling experience. In ‘Introduction to the Arts and Play Therapies’, you will explore how the therapeutic relationship can be mediated through an art form and how to deliver therapy through play for a range of people. In the ‘Practice of Counselling Skills’ module, you will develop your counselling and communication skills through various practical and written exercises and presentations. In ‘Psychology in Action’ you will design your own research project to explore the role that evidence plays in psychological research.
