Motion Graphics is at the forefront of visual communication. As skilled designers and storytellers, Motion Designers utilise a wide range of creative disciplines including graphic design, branding, animation, illustration and video production. Through our well-established industry links, you will engage with professional practice from day one. Learning industry-standard software, underpinned with solid design thinking, you will develop your own unique combination of creative and technical skills and graduate as an agile and industry-ready motion designer. This course combines digital technology and creative design to equip students with the full range of theoretical and practical skills required for a successful career in the entertainment and creative industries. It will open up opportunities for all budding motion designers, animators, filmmakers and visual effects compositors to realise their potential. The course covers key areas including animation, storytelling, graphic design, 3D graphics, video production, interactive content creation and digital compositing. It also explores the historical, contextual and future potential of motion graphic design. Using the latest industry-standard specialist software, students create contemporary motion graphics, both 2D and 3D for film, digital TV, mobile, web, games, and other creative outlets. Key study topics include: - Short form narrative (animation and live action) - Animation - Visual communication and typography - Live action - Information design - Branding - Cross media concept development - History, context and future potential of motion graphic design.

Course Details - Modules

Year 1: Students will build fundamental skills in conceptual thinking, storytelling, graphic design, branding, communication and visualisation. There is an emphasis on understanding the industry and exploring the broad role of the motion graphic designer. We encourage students to start thinking about their contextual studies research throughout this year. Year 2: All the skills attained in the first year will be brought together in the second year in longer projects that reflect the sort of real-life work motion graphic designers might typically do. These projects will include: film and television title sequences information graphics advertising and promotional films music video and branding. Students will also get the opportunity to collaborate with students from other courses and choose elective units that reflect their personal interests. They will also have the chance to engage with industry professionals and get opportunities to work on live briefs and take up internships. Year 3: The final year is focused on creating a personal portfolio of work that reflects student's skills and aspirations as a motion graphics designer. They will: be required to do one competition or live brief but otherwise all briefs can be self initiated receive portfolio reviews from industry professionals have on-going mentoring and technical advice attend specialist workshops.

Course Details – Assessment Method

Students will be continually assessed through presentation of written and project work. Assessment in the final year is through submission of a dissertation, portfolio of work and showreel.
