Whether students are aspiring architects or building conservationists, the BA (Hons) Architecture degree course will give a strong understanding of both the practical and theoretical aspects of architecture. It combines the likes of art, philosophy and technology to bring an experimental approach to solving problems. Students will study the design of buildings and the technical aspects of construction, as well as how architecture relates to all aspects of our lives.
Over the three-year course, you will learn through a mix of problem-based outcomes, design studio tutoring, workshops and traditional lecture. Delivered by people who have worked at the cutting-edge of contemporary architecture, you will develop a broad understanding of the practical and theoretical aspects of architecture.

- Techniques for designing structures and rapid prototyping
- Architectural history, theory and context
- Business enterprise for design and regulatory frameworks

- New developments in architecture/design projects around the world
The course will provide you with multi-disciplinary knowledge and vital transferable skills. It will prepare you for a career within the many aspects of architecture such as: urban design, housing and office design, planning, building conservation, architectural heritage, community development.
Course Details - Modules
Year 1
Students will build skills in architectural computer graphics, basic principles of structure and design and basic research skills.
They will begin to think about professional enterprise and angles on problems of the built environment.
We encourage students to start thinking about their contextual studies research.
Year 2
Students will gain greater understanding of urban design, branded environments, rehabilitation projects, and the history of the city.
This will allow them to enhance their practice and develop their approach to design work.
We set briefs that encourage students to collaborate with other students and create work as part of a design team.
Year 3
Students will bring their learning together in a final negotiated major project, where you will investigate and make architectural design decisions.
They will carry out a negotiated project which takes the form of a live brief.
We ask students to show their contextual studies research and thinking in a long form dissertation.
Students will leave with a portfolio that shows their skills in areas in entry-level architecture.
Course Details – Assessment Method
Knowledge and understanding is assessed through texts, reports, individual and group presentations and through its application in design projects in a manner appropriate to each unit. Some units additionally require the submission of rationales, background research, development materials and evidence of reflection on process.
