Course Summary

Structural Engineering with Architecture (SEA) is concerned with the planning, design, construction, sustainability, management, energy use, aesthetics and rehabilitation of the built environment. Fields of activity include architectural design, structures, foundations, building technology, urban space and form and architecture. Structural engineers require not only technical skills, but are also concerned with working in, and managing, multidisciplinary design teams. SEA is part of the Civil Engineering degree which is accredited by all of the Civil and Structural profession institutions in the EU. Lecturers lead high-quality research, which is reflected in their excellence in teaching.

Standard Qualification Requirements

Including A-level Mathematics + one from Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Technology & Design, Geography, Computer Science or ICT (Not Applied). A-level General Studies and Critical Thinking are normally excluded from offers. However, the grade achieved may be taken into account when results are published in August and may be used in a tie-break situation.

Including Advanced Highers in Mathematics + one from Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Geography, Computer Science or ICT. Offers are normally made on the basis of a combination of the two Advanced Highers and two Highers.

Successful completion of IB Diploma Programme with 36 points overall including 6,6,6 at Higher Level including Mathematics + one from Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Geography, Computer Science or ICT.

H2H2 Mathematics + one from Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Geography, Computer Science/ICT + H3H3H3H3 including English. Joint Physics and Chemistry Higher Level is acceptable.

GCSE Mathematics at grade B or better. Scottish National 5 Mathematics at grade B or better. In all cases where Physics is not offered at A-level or at Scottish Higher/Advanced Higher, applicants must have a minimum of grade B in GCSE Physics/grades BB in Double Award Science (not Applied), or grade B in National 5 Physics.
