Course Summary

The role of a paramedic is vital, rewarding, and expanding – with increasing emphasis on clinical decision-making skills – offering you an ideal career if you thrive under pressure and want a varied role in medical care. This innovative course, developed in partnership with the East of England Ambulance Service, will develop your clinical knowledge and confidence in simulated situations. Spend around 50% of your time in supervised, supported practice, enabling you to experience the full 24-hour working pattern. Your final year research project will enable you to progress to employment as a professional paramedic with a strong research base and potential for professional development. The course is recognised by the Health and Care Professions Council and leads to eligibility to register, on completion, as a registered paramedic.

Additional Fee Information

Tuition fees are reviewed annually. For this course you need to have appropriate equipment. Your kit should include: Stethoscope (£5-£60) Watch (£5-£20) Course Polo shirt (around £15) DBS : You will need to pay for the initial Disclosure and Barring Service check plus an annual update charge of £13. Occupational Health Clearance: You may need to pay for some additional services and vaccinations if not available through your GP. Stationery (printer ink, paper, pens, USB sticks, files etc (£30-£50) Books (£50-£200) You need to ensure that you budget for travelling from your home to the University; between academic sites and to and from placements. You need to budget for travel costs to ambulance station placements on a daily basis. Some NHS Trusts issue free permits for parking at NHS sites. Ambulance sites have free parking. In year 1 you need to come to Luton campus for 3.5 days a week for the first 6 weeks. Thereafter, years 1-3 will require 2 days at Luton campus and 2 days in placement (exact details available via timetables). Specialist learning may require learning to occur off-site when engaging with other services or disciplines; for these activities, car sharing is promoted. All of our campuses have full catering facilities where you may purchase meals or snacks. Likewise, if living in Halls, you will need to make your own arrangements for food etc. The University does have a limited number of parking spaces available, price on request. Exact costs may vary.
