Course Summary

The relationship between a person with a mental illness and the nurse is central to helping them back to mental health. This course emphasises the development of appropriate communication and interpersonal skills through interactive learning in practice settings such as hospitals, prisons, service users’ homes, residential centres, specialist clinics and other community settings. This course leads to both an Honours degree and registration with the Nursing and Midwifery Council, allowing you to practise as a mental health nurse and in accordance with the NHS Constitution. This course achieved 97% overall satisfaction in the National Student Survey 2015.

Additional Fee Information

Tuition fees are reviewed annually. Additional Costs; Travel from home to University - Your base may be in Aylesbury, Luton or Bedford depending on the offer you receive from the University. You will need to ensure you have funds to pay for parking, usually in public car parks. This could be up to £10 per day depending on where you choose to park. Travel to alternate academic sites - Variable depending on mode of transport and whether car sharing. This may include travel to Aylesbury, Luton or Bedford campuses. Travel to placements - You are required to attend a range of placements in hospitals or community settings. There will be travel on a daily basis and this should be planned for. This will be across a range of shifts and will involve you travelling at a range of times as shifts cover the 24 hour period. This will also require you to attend a range of shifts including early shifts at 7:00 a.m., across the week and throughout the course. Parking costs at NHS sites - This is variable across practice partners. Parking permits purchased by students for some Trusts (costs vary).
