**Overview**
Are you a registered health or social care practitioner who wants to improve your career prospects by topping up your diploma or Foundation degree to a full Bachelor’s degree?
On this 2-year part-time BSc (Hons) Advancing Professional Practice top-up degree course – created in partnership with NHS Trusts – you'll develop the professional and practical skills you need for advancing of practice in areas such as paramedic science, operating department practice and general health care.
When you complete the course, you'll have the skills, knowledge and qualification you need to work at Band 6 or above on the NHS pay scale.
**What you'll experience**
On this top up degree course, you'll:
- Put the theory you learn into practice through simulation in our Centre for Simulation in Health and Care and evidence-based activities
- Use action learning sets, where you work with a group of your peers to solve problems, collaboratively sharing and learning from your experiences
- Complete research and clinically focused units
- Learn transferable skills, such as the ability to evaluate data and people’s ideas objectively
- Attend University 1 day a week in term time so you can continue working while you study
**Careers and opportunities**
After you complete this course, you’ll have the skills and knowledge to advance your practice and the qualification you need to take on a role at Band 6 and above. The course aligns with the NHS Career Framework and NHS Agenda for Change initiative, so you can apply the professional and clinical skills you learn in a variety of health and social care roles.
You could also go on to do postgraduate study in research or advanced practice.

Course Details – Assessment Method
You’ll be assessed through simulated exercises, objective structured clinical examinations (OSCEs), essays, individual and group presentations, a major project.
You’ll be able to test your skills and knowledge informally before you do assessments that count towards your final mark. You can get feedback on all practice and formal assessments so you can improve in the future.
