Do you have a passion to study mathematics, but lack the normal entry requirements for one of our honours degrees? Perhaps you've shown evidence of good academic potential, but don’t have sufficient qualifications or have been out of formal education for a while. This new four year degree route incorporates a foundation year, which will develop your skills in applied mathematics, statistics and some computer programming. * Gain a solid background equivalent to A level Mathematics plus part of Further Mathematics and an introduction to computer programming. * You are taught on campus by University lecturers: you are a member of the University community from the start. * Our academics are experts and will help you hone your skills so you are able to start on the first year of one of our degree courses with confidence. * Our final year Mathematics students say our teaching is outstanding: they gave us 100 per cent on ‘overall satisfaction’ in the latest National Student Survey and we also scored the highest result, 97%, of all UK Mathematics departments for ’the course is well organised and running smoothly'. * A highlight of your course is an independent investigation of a mathematical topic of your choice. You will present your research to a small peer group using written and oral presentations. * You will become a confident, effective communicator, able to present your ideas visually, verbally and in writing. Small group tutorials help you acquire these skills. * Our doors are open, we have a dedicated study space, the Maths Lab, clickers for immediate feedback in class, online podcasts – in short, we support you to reach your full potential.

During the one year foundation course, you’ll take two mathematics modules, one on fundamental methods, such as trigonometry and calculus, and one on applications mostly from mechanics, which will introduce you to vectors. You'll study statistics and IT, using software used in industry. The project element lets you explore one of your interest areas in more detail. At the end of year, you can transfer to any of the mathematics courses provided you obtain an average mark of 50 per cent or above.
