Course Summary

Do you have a passion to study environmental science, but lack the normal entry requirements for one of our honours degrees? This new four year degree route incorporates a foundation year, which has developed from our extended science course giving you the study skills and scientific underpinning to continue the remainder of the course with confidence. You will apply the latest techniques in the laboratory and the field - through training and extensive fieldwork in the UK and overseas Malaysia, China and Malta as there is no substitute for learning by ‘seeing and doing’. You’ll equip yourself for successful employment in a competitive job market – our focus on practical, professional skills means you graduate primed to enter the workplace. * Progress onto the BSc (Hons) Environmental Science that produces professional graduates who can build solutions to real world environmental issues, using cutting edge practical skills and underpinned by an excellent knowledge base. * Develop an understanding of human environmental impact in terms of climate change, biodiversity, conservation and sustainability, in marine and terrestrial ecosystems. * Apply the latest techniques in the laboratory and the field - through training and extensive fieldwork in the UK and overseas Malaysia, China and Malta as there is no substitute for learning by ‘seeing and doing’. * Benefit from a full staff tutorial support programme and Peer Assisted Learning (PALS), the latter lead by students a year ahead of you so you can have a student’s perspective. * Equip yourself for successful employment in a competitive job market – our focus on practical, professional skills means you graduate primed to enter the workplace. * Hone your practical problem-solving skills and knowledge by hands on experience of our high spec analytical equipment in our newly-refurbished laboratories or on board one of our range of marine research vessels such as Falcon Spirit based at our new Marine Station with a unique opportunity to become a professional diver (HSE SCUBA), and undertake academic diving to support your research projects. * The foundation year is an integral part of the extended degree. Completion of the foundation year will not lead to a separate award or qualification its own right but will provide access to Year 1 of your degree.
