Course Summary

Join our BA (Hons) Creative Writing with Foundation programme and benefit from a foundation year specially designed to support you in developing all the essential skills for success in higher education. Unlock your inner writer and be inspired to pen your own words by the rugged scenery that has sparked novels like War Horse and The Hound of the Baskervilles. Unleash your creativity as you learn how to write poetry, fiction, non-fiction, screenplays and more with the support of published authors. Write, think and grow. Discover what sort of writing sets your imagination soaring and how you can use it to make your mark. Use our partnerships with organisations like the Theatre Royal Plymouth to develop your dramatic writing or practice writing for display with the National Trust. Benefit from our wider links with local schools, local papers like the Plymouth Herald and literary festivals like the Port Eliot Lit Festival. At Plymouth, your degree really is what you make it. From the second year, you can choose to add modules from any of the School of Society & Culture’s 17 disciplines. You can enhance your writing of crime fiction with a module on criminology or broaden your horizons and sharpen your voice on social issues with modules from Sociology or Politics. Learn how your own writing could move the dial on major social issues like race relations and the environment so you can play your part. Get published and experience the professional writing process, all with one-to-one support from our published academics. Gain invaluable writing experience with INK, our in-house magazine, produced entirely by our students or for charity PEN, whose letter writing supports political prisoners.
