The BSc (Hons) Computing and Software Development degree exposes students to multiple programming languages, tools and technologies that are industry standards, in addition to underlying principles. The subject group has strong links with industry, for example we have links with many of the industrial leads (e.g. Apple, Microsoft, IBM, Oracl and Intel) and those links are used to embed relevant real-world problems directly into the programmes. The programme is supported by an Industry Advisory Panel that feeds back on the industrial relevant of the teaching materials. This degree is based on three core areas: the foundations of computer science, principles of software engineering and core aspects of information systems. There is a clear emphasis on employability with industry support to develop technical skills in web and software development combined with problem solving skills and the vial professional skills to understand how to apply technology to real life. Throughout the course, an applied, learning through doing approach is used ensuring students have a skillset highly prized by employers. Dedicated teaching staff are engaged in internationally significant research and are actively creating and developing applications as well maintaining a wealth of industry contacts.
