Plumpton College is the UK’s centre of excellence for education, training and research in wine, and delivers the only European undergraduate degree in wine production taught in English.
Throughout the course you will study the science and theories that underpin successful grape growing and winemaking, including the relevant chemistry, biology and microbiology. There is a strong practical focus to the course; you will actively participate in the production of the College’s award-winning wine in our well-equipped commercial vineyard and winery. The programme includes classes on how to evaluate wine through tastings and laboratory analysis. In order to develop your winemaking skills, you will undertake a placement in a commercial winery for the vintage period in your final year of study. This could take place in the UK, Europe or further afield. Graduates from this course have become vineyard managers, winemakers, wine buyers, cellar managers, wine educators, project scientists and oenologists not just in the UK, but around the world. For part-time study, please contact the Admissions Office for more information.
