Course Summary

The Teaching and Learning Support Foundation Degree is designed for those working or wishing to work in schools with children in Key Stages1 and 2, i.e. children in years 1 to 6. The programme has been developed so that those wishing to work in an educational setting to support the teaching and learning of children can explore a variety of contemporary topics and issues, such as behaviour management, social pedagogy and inclusive education. Students will carry out research which is relevant to their workplace. Our Teaching & Learning Support course is quality assured by Middlesex University and you will receive a Middlesex Award on successful completion. Students studying a Foundation Degree can apply to do a "top-up" year to obtain a full BA (Hons) degree in Teaching & Learning Support. This course is also available at AHED.

Course Details - Modules

This course is a two year Foundation Degree. There are three terms each year. The first term is focussed on ensuring you develop the study and management skills necessary to be successful at degree level. You will study two modules: Developing & Enhancing Academic Skills and Introduction to Education. These modules are contextualised to Teaching & Learning Support and will ensure you know how to research material and extract relevant information, write an academic essay, a report, reference correctly, plan time effectively and work in a team. In Terms 2 and 3 you will study the following modules: Supporting the National Curriculum, Reflective Practice and Teaching & Professionalism. In year two you will study the following modules: Safeguarding, Inclusive Education, Work-Based Learning Project. Social Pedagogy and Understanding & Managing Human Behaviour.

Course Details – Assessment Method

Assessment includes essays, reports, individual and group presentations, case studies, research reports and several work-based assignments. These strategies are also designed to enable the development of key transferable skills in the workplace. There are no examinations.

Additional Fee Information

Please note that the tuition fee is charged per annum. Students will have access to the Learning Resource Centre at our Owens Road campus and learning materials, books and journals will be available online and through our VLE (Moodle). Students are responsible for their own purchase of text books. Where travel to other sites is required, this will be payable by the student. Where students fail to return loaned items within the required time they will be responsible for the cost of any library fees and fines applicable. The cost of printing and photocopying undertaken by students to support their individual learning (beyond the allowance provided by the College) is payable by the student.
