The English side of the course offers you a choice of options covering a comprehensive span of literature written in the English language from its origins in Anglo-Saxon through to works produced in English-speaking countries across the world in the present day. The Modern Language study will give you practical linguistic training, encourage you to think coherently about language as a subject of study and introduce you to an extensive and fascinating literature and thought written in European Languages. Standard Qualification Requirements

A in English Lit or English Lang/Lit, and A in the Modern Language Excluding General Studies (if taken)

Supplemented by two or more Advanced Highers.

Some Access courses allow students to take one or two A-levels as part of the course. Including English Lit or English Lang/Lit, and the Modern Language Conditional offers will usually be for AAB if a student is able to take three Advanced Highers; where this is not possible then a student would be expected to achieve AA in two Advanced Highers, as well as an A grade in an additional Higher course taken in Year 6.

Conditional offers would usually be: Extended Diploma with D*D*D to DDD, depending on the course. Diploma with DD plus an A grade at A-level, possibly with one or two * grades, depending on the course. Pre-U subject requirements are the same as those for A-levels.

Candidates are expected to have English Literature, or English Language and Literature, to A-level, Advanced Higher, Higher Level in the IB or any other equivalent. Candidates applying for a non-beginners' language course would be expected to have an A-level, or academic equivalent, in that language. We expect you to have taken and passed any practical component in your chosen science subjects. A range of other international qualifications is also acceptable for entry.
